A visa is the document that allows you to enter a country legally. Travelling to countries in the same geographical area as our own eliminates the need for a visa. However, travelling to different geographical areas does require a visa for identity checks. For most travellers, with the exception of Moroccan nationals, airport tax and visas are formalities that can be completed online or on arrival.
Do French nationals need a visa to visit Cape Verde?
French nationals are exempt from this document for Cape Verde. This provision has been made public since 1 January 2019. From now on, all French nationals can travel to Cape Verde without needing a visa.. However, this measure does not only concern French citizens. It also concerns all European citizens and the inhabitants of the small states of Monaco and Andorra. More than sixty countries are affected.
However, it should be noted that the maximum length of stay authorised without a visa by the Cape Verdean authorities is 30 days. For stays longer than that, you will inevitably need to obtain a visa.
Why this exemption?
The news of this measure was announced by the Minister for the Interior Fernando Elisio Freire de Andrade. He explains this as the cape verdean government's determination to make its tourism sector competitive. Based on the Minister's statements, we can therefore assume that this measure only applies to citizens travelling there for tourism for a maximum of 30 days. So how does it work?
To obtain an EASE and pay airport tax, you need to complete a online pre-registration 5 days before the start of your trip. During the process, you will be asked to provide a number of personal details relating to your stay in Cape Verde. This includes your flight number, passport number and the date and place of your stay.
