Cape Verde: nationalities not requiring a visa

Tourism is one of Cape Verde's main sources of income, and it is listed as one of the best spots for it. However, many people ask: "Do I need a visa for Cape Verde?". Here's the answer to your question.

How do I enter Cape Verde without a visa?

Since 1st January 2019Cape Verde has introduced registration for citizens of most European and African countries. Pre-arrival registration can easily be done online using the EASE form. The process is quick and easy. All you need to do is enter your passport details, flight information and details of your stay.

Pre-arrival registration is a single entry document valid for a stay of 30 days in the country. It should be noted that children under the age of 2 are exempt from the registration requirement. However, this document is not a visa but the payment of an airport tax. Depending on your nationality, a visa may be required in addition to the EASE payment.

Do you need a visa to go to Cape Verde?

Nationals of one of the Member States of the ECOWAS do not require a visa, as Cape Verde is itself a member state. To enter, all you need is a valid travel document such as the ECOWAS laissez-passer or the passport.

French nationals and citizens of the European Union and Switzerland are also exempt from the visa requirement for stays of up to 30 days. However, you must have completed a online pre-registration and also settled a security tax airport. These formalities are carried out on a quick form to fill in before arriving in the country. It is advisable to pre-register 5 days before travelling.

Finally, countries such as South Africa, China, Mauritania, Mozambique and Cuba are also visa-free. However, they must have pre-registered before departure. Finally, people who are related to a Cape Verdean or who were born in the country but have acquired other nationalities may enter the country freely. However, they must provide proof.

All travellers must pay airport tax. Depending on the nationality, payment can be made online, using the EASE form, or on arrival, with immigration.
